Maureen Godfrey attended New York Law School and graduated summa
cum laude in 1999. The following
year, she clerked for the Honorable Richard Owen, United States District Judge
for the Southern District of New York. Maureen then began as an associate with
Sullivan & Cromwell, L.P. where she was a commercial litigator. After Sullivan & Cromwell, Maureen worked
for smaller firms before founding her own firm. She is licensed in New York and
Connecticut and focuses on civil and commercial litigation, including business
torts, noncompetes, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, employment
discrimination, and E.R.I.S.A. claims among others. She is admitted to practice in
the states of New York and Connecticut.
Before becoming a licensed attorney, Maureen was a police
officer for the New York City Police Department. She began as a housing police
officer working in Police Service Area 6 covering Harlem, Spanish Harlem and
Inwood in northern Manhattan. She
transferred to the Police Academy where she taught law to the police recruits
and eventually worked in the Department's Legal Bureau before retiring.
Maureen was raised in Inwood, northern Manhattan. In college, she played for the College of New
Rochelle women's basketball team, a team that reached the NCAA Final Four for
Division III. Maureen currently
volunteers as a coach for a local CYO basketball league.
